Dispelling Rumors

Unfortunately, we are still not open.  I have been waiting a while now to update everyone with some positive news that we have our permits, and are moving considerably faster on the interior rebuild (see last post), but alas, we still do not have them (we’ve only been waiting 6+ weeks and counting!).  I would like to reiterate to our all of our bowlers, that unless you hear the word from this website, or from us in person or telephone, it is just a rumor.  We are not going anywhere, and cannot open soon enough!

Here are the facts:

  • We are not open yet, are still anticipating being a couple months out once we get our permits
  • We have been waiting 6+weeks for the plans approval process for the interior rebuild
  • We do not have an opening date yet (see above two points)
  • The fire damaged steel and roof decking over the bar/snack bar have been replaced, and the entire roof has been installed!
  • Yorktown Lanes WILL BE OPENING as soon as we can, and the Cottrell family is NOT going anywhere!
  • Shame on those who would fabricate and spread rumors to the contrary!

Once again, if you are unsure of what you are hearing, feel free to contact us at (440) 886-5300.  In the meantime, I hope that everyone is enjoying the mild (albeit wet) January weather!   More information as I have it.

Groundhog Day

I was planning to have an update today letting you know that we got the plans back from the city, and are moving forward on the inside…but the recurring theme on this whole project seems to be “hurry up and wait.”  This being our first (and hopefully last) experience with this type of situation, we are pretty anxious to have things go as quick as possible, probably a little too quick for the actual time frame of a project of this size.  The city has had the final prints for about two weeks for review, and any day now we should have some form of them back, hopefully with their stamp of approval!

Despite the rain, things are still moving on the roof. In the meantime, here’s a fun shot of the inside…

Moving Forward!

Roof is started!

After many quiet weeks I am happy to report: Roof construction has started! Weather permitting, this should take a couple weeks. In the meantime, the rest of the prints are being readied for submission, and once approved, things can start moving on the inside–FINALLY!

Quick note: for those not aware of the fire situation, read original post here.

Of course the main question we keep getting asked “when will you reopen?”  While I’d love to be able to give a date, unfortunately we are still “a couple months” out.  Our hopes are to be open before the end of the year, but again, I cannot give a good date at this time.  We are still waiting to have the new roof put on.  Once the new roof is on, the focus will immediately move to the interior, and things will start picking up significantly.  Once that happens, I do believe we will have a much better idea on timeline, and ultimately be able estimate an opening date.  Some good news: demo work on the warped steel in the bar starts MONDAY, which moves us that much closer to the roof construction starting.  In the meantime we have been working on so many things to get our home back together, floor finishes, bar design, etc, it has been mind-boggling all the different things involved in this project.   I cannot wait to see the outcome, and more importantly, I cannot wait to see everyone back inside the Yorktown we all know and love.

Stay tuned– Jeremy

Sealing the Ceiling

Roof supports are being sprayed, new roof steel on its way; bowlers seating/masking units/ball returns on order, floor finishes finalized…things are moving along!

Honoring The Parma Heights Fire Department

Just got back from tonight’s Parma Heights City Council meeting.  Chief Sloan presented members of the PHFD with a Unit Citation for the exemplary job they did in response to the fire at Yorktown.  He commended their efficiency, bravery, and extensive training which attributed to the quick containment and eventual extinguishing of the blaze, for which we cannot thank them enough.

PROGRESS!

The initial concept of the new interior have been approved by management, and working drawings are now pending.  While the first priority in reconstruction is the roof, there are many exciting things on the agenda for the inside.  All new bowlers seating, new flat panel monitors for the computer scoring system, and an expanded bar area with stage, are just a small taste of what you can expect inside the new Yorktown!

For Those Who Have Not Heard

On 8/16/11 approximately 3:30pm a fire started in the bar here at Yorktown. While we were open at the time (the bar was not), we are lucky to have caught it early enough to have evacuated everyone quickly and safely. Fire and heat damage was mainly confined to the bar, snack bar and kitchen areas (and the roof above it), but smoke and soot permeated every other bit of the building.

As we are hoping to reopen within a couple of months, at this time we do not have an exact time table on the rebuilding process. The Yorktown family is very appreciative of all our customers, and hope to continue to serve you all again as soon as possible. Things will be newer and better on the inside, and we are excited to move forward on this positive note after such a terrible event. We want to thank everyone for their continuing support and patience.

I’ve created this site as a centralized location to keep everyone updated on the progress of the reconstruction, post photos, thoughts, etc.  My goal is to update it at least once a week (if not more).
